Hometown Heroes

Hometown Heroes

We’re proud to be able to honor our Inaugural Hometown Heroes this year!! This project is active and our public works crew is working to hang all of the banners by Veterans Day. There are 65 banners of men and women from Mount Airy that are Veterans or active service members. There are 4 banners of organizations in town that we are proud to honor as veteran champions. Four individuals died during active duty and those banners have special gold stars. You will see the banners on Park Avenue, Center St (Downtown), and North and South Main Street.

Sustainable Maryland Certified

2020 Sustainable Maryland Award

We received sustainability certifications from the environmental center. “We are very proud to be bestowed with the honor of being a sustainable community,” said Mount Airy Mayor Patrick Rockinberg in a news release. "The town is actively working with countless volunteers to build a more sustainable future. In order to be certified, municipalities must organize a variety of local figures — including residents, community leaders and municipal staff and officials — into a “Green Team,” and complete a series of sustainability-related actions.
