April 2021 Mayor's Report

In addition, I have seen town staff and members of our Emergency Response Team perform services they have never performed before like seasoned pros! We have a common enemy, COVID-19, and we have come together as families and as a community just as we will need to continue to do as the days turn into weeks and even months.” I am very proud of our community and how we have weathered the storm of a pandemic.  We continue to focus on aiding those most affected, therefore I am extending temporary outdoor dining encouraging businesses to apply for permanent and asking planning to lighten the schedule.  I am encouraging more outdoor use at our parks and to assist businesses and local clients impacted and needing some temporary space! That's part of where the phrase “Together We Can” comes from!!!!

We are focusing on stepping the bank pop-up even though it’s already amazing but hoping to cycle more events without closing the streets. Remember we have already had yoga classes, music on state, sign language classes, scouting events and more! Take advantage of the water fountain and fire pits. Currently, the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce is planning an event on April 22nd and Councilwoman Pamela Reed is planning the Bank Brews on April 25th. Visit https://www.mountairymd.org/facilities to reserve a pavilion or the pop-up park for your next event!

Watkins Park Inclusive Playground – Construction on the new playground and pavilion has begun and is progressing nicely. Just in time for the spring weather. Ribbon cutting ceremony will be live on Facebook on April 9th at 4:00 PM
