Press Release: Mayor Rockinberg Accouncement

Dear Neighbors,

We breathe a sigh of relief as the mandatory stay at home order has been reduced to a recommendation, some services, religious and retail spaces are allowed to re-open with 50% capacity and social distancing. It is important to remember these small steps can be reversed if we do not continue to practice the safer methods we have learned over the past 2 month. Let’s keep the recovery going by complying! Mount Airy has been opening creatively and in compliance with State Orders. We are working with local restaurants still limited to carry out only to assist them in gradually transitioning from carry out or curbside service only to full operation when it is safe to do so, in light of issued Executive Orders giving local government more flexibility in the reopening process, and in cooperation with our County leadership.

We are split by two counties, Frederick and Carroll, with Carroll being more rural. Frederick County has taken a position to be more restrictive in their re-opening process and are limiting business openings. The Town is requesting a waiver from Frederick County for businesses, like beauty salons, in order to provide consistency and a level playing field for all Mount Airy businesses.

It’s important we work together to keep us all safe and to limit spill over and contamination into our town.

Let’s all continue to do our part!!!!

Patrick Rockinberg
