We are experiencing an unprecedented time, however together we will overcome this challenge as we have other challenges throughout our history. We understand how stressful and perhaps confusing this time is for our families and everyone. Hopefully the resources and information we provide will be helpful to you. There's a lot of uncertainty, but I want you to know that the town is working around the clock to ensure that we gather and forward helpful information to assist our community during this COVID-19 pandemic. We have created an Emergency Response Team that is teleconferencing every other day and making updates hourly.
The Town Council and I are immensely proud of our staff and our entire community. Our service groups, volunteers and citizens are stepping up to help. We have had a virtual meeting with our service group leaders and we are reviewing several action items to help both our businesses and community members who may be struggling during this crisis. I am extremely proud of our staff members that have stepped up to this unprecedented event. Specifically Gina Campanile, Ashley Collier, Melissa Thorn, David Warrington, Brian Johnson and the rest of our staff. Please see our updated website they developed as a great resource for how you can help!
In addition to the COVID-19 Information page, we have created a Mount Airy Restaurants Updates page to keep you informed on restaurant carry out and delivery options as well as hours. Please consider patronizing these establishments during these difficult times. Keep in mind social distancing as recommended.
There is also a Community Involvement and Resource page where you can sign up to join our volunteer brigade and some beneficial things you can do with your kids when you are self-quarantining. Our website home page has been updated as well to highlight COVID-19 information.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to reduce the spread of the illness. Please review the informational mailer below and click on the link if you would like to download and post on your refrigerator. Fortunately, the weather has been pretty nice during the crisis so far, so fresh Mount Airy air is always good for your physical and mental health.
Please watch for the informational mailers that are to be sent out next week to the community. It explains what the Town is doing to slow down the spread of the disease. The situation is evolving daily so please view our website at www.mountairymd.gov/covid19 for the latest information and the governor's latest executive orders which focus on social distancing and public gathering limits. Tell your fellow Mount Airyians to sign up for notifications using the new button on our home page.
