Trash, Yard Waste and Recycling
Weekly Trash Collection
Trash is collected every Tuesday for Carroll County premises and every Friday for Frederick County premises. Trash should be put out in clear or translucent plastic bags by 6:30 am on the day of pick-up. There is a 120 gallon weekly trash limit per premises. Trash service is performed by Key Sanitation at (301) 668-8282.
Do not put recycling, yard waste, bulk items, tires, or hazardous materials in with trash. Your hauler may reject trash placed out for pick up which contains any of these items.
Yard Waste
Key Sanitation, Inc., (301) 668-8282, is under contract to collect yard waste for the residents of the Town of Mount Airy.
Yard Waste:
- will be collected from the curb on the dates listed on the calendar
- must be placed at the curb by 6:00 am on the day of collection
- should not be placed out prior to the yard clean up dates
- must be in biodegradable paper bags (no plastic bags)
Accepted Yard Waste:
- Christmas trees (special pickup dates will be posted on the calendar)
- Yard trimmings
- Grass clippings
- Hedge and garden clippings
- Tree prunings
- Leaves
- Brush and branches cut in three foot lengths and no more than three inches in diameter tied in bundles
Non-Acceptable Yard Waste:
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat)
- Root balls
- Dirt
- Sod
- Rocks
- Branches larger than three feet long or greater than three inches in diameter or not tied in bundles.
- Any other items such as trash cans or other containers will not be accepted for collection.

Frederick County recyclables are collected every other Wednesday and Carroll County recyclables are collected every Wednesday.

Used engine oil and antifreeze can be recycled at the town maintenance yard on 215 Prospect Road, by arrangement with the Maryland Environmental Service. There are labeled metal tanks out front on the street into which residents can pour oil and antifreeze. Residents are responsible for the proper disposal of empty containers elsewhere .
