The Town of Mount Airy has five Maryland State Police Resident Troopers. Resident Troopers perform the same duties a local police force would perform. The Police Office is located at 2 Park Avenue. For emergency assistance call 911. The non-emergency phone number is (301) 829-0218. If a Trooper is not in the office, your call is automatically forwarded to the Maryland State Police.
Maryland State Police said there was a bank robbery in the area at about 11:38 a.m. Wednesday morning. The bank, SunTrust Bank, is in the 300 block of East Ridgeville Boulevard.
MSP Trooper James Cooper said a black male in his early-to-mid 20s wearing all dark clothing succeeded in robbing the bank. He was wearing all dark clothing, Cooper said.
There’s not much information yet, he said, but they do know the man fled on foot toward Route 27.
Police said there is no one in custody.
Mount Airy is protected by a fully-equipped Volunteer Fire Department that provides both fire fighting and ambulance services. The fire hall is located at 702 North Main Street. They also have the Activities Grounds, banquet facilities and ball fields located on the corner of Maryland Route 27 and Twin Arch Road. The Fire Department is dependent on donations from citizens and local governments as well as fund-raising activities for its entire budget.
